Como Usar o Verbo “Wish” em Inglês

Lembra daquela música do Pink Floyd, “Wish you were here”?

Então, o verbo wish é usado neste exemplo de uma forma bem peculiar em inglês e é isso que você vai aprender no vídeo abaixo:

Os exemplos usados no vídeo:

Wish + Simple Past = we regret something or something is not the way we would like it to be

I wish I had an umbrella. = I don’t have an umbrella.
I wish I could speak German. = I don’t speak German.
I wish it didn’t rain so often. = It rains very often.
I wish there weren’t so many people here. = There are too many people here.
I wish I didn’t have to work tomorrow. = I have to work tomorrow.
I wish Helen was here. = Helen’s not here.

I Wish x I Would Like

I would like to go to the movies.
I wish I could go to the movies.

He’d like to travel abroad.
He wishes he could travel abroad.

They would like to know what’s happening.
They wish they knew what’s happening.

Wish + Past Perfect = I’m sorry this activity didn’t happen

I wish I’d known he was sick. I would’ve gone to see him.
I wish I hadn’t eaten so much cake. I feel sick now.
Do you wish you had studied languages instead of science?
The weather was cold while I was away. I wish it had been warmer.
I wish I had applied for that job.
He wishes he had learned how to play the guitar when he was younger.
